Southbank Centre is the UK’s largest arts centre, sitting in the midst of London’s most vibrant cultural quarter on the South Bank of the Thames. The site has an extraordinary creative and architectural history stretching back to the 1951 Festival of Britain. Southbank Centre is home to the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and Hayward Gallery as well as The National Poetry Library and the Arts Council Collection, and in August will be presenting intriguing dance content.

Alexandra Burke to join the cast of Chicago

Alexandra Burke will join the West End cast of CHICAGO at the Phoenix Theatre, playing the role of Roxie Hart from Monday 13 August until Saturday 14 October. She will join Martin Kemp as Billy Flynn, Mazz Murray as Mama Morton, Josefina Gabrielle as Velma Kelly and Paul Rider as Amos Hart. Martin Kemp will be staying in the London production of CHICAGO until 1 September.

Audiences in London

The Society of London Theatre recently released its London audience figures for 2017, in which theatre attendances have topped 15 million for the first time since data collection began in 1986. Data is collected from all theatres with a membership to SOLT, and shows the number is up by 5.35 per cent compared to 2016. Over the year the first two quarters showed a strong performance, however the final quarter of 2017 marked a noticeable fall in attendance and revenue. Continue reading Audiences in London

Kimberly Wyatt to host at London’s Tap Festival

Grammy nominated artist Kimberly Wyatt (ex-Pussycat Doll and judge on Sky1’s Got to Dance) will teach a Mastering Performance workshop as part of the London Tap Dance Intensive on Saturday 28 July at Danceworks. The workshop is designed to develop skills in mastering stagecraft, performance quality and building confidence both on stage and in the studio. Ballet West launches international touring company

Ballet West, a leading vocational ballet school based in Taynuilt in the West Highlands, has launched a professional International Touring Company. The new company will be performing Swan Lake in Genting, Malaysia between 24 August and 2 September, with plans to perform at other venues in the Far East in early autumn.
