Five of the world’s leading ballet companies will come together for World Ballet Day to consequently broadcast 20 hours of live, behind-the-scenes footage via Facebook Live.

Nicholas Le Riche to join Royal Swedish Ballet
It was recently announced that Nicolas Le Riche will direct Royal Swedish Ballet from the beginning of autumn 2017, having signed a five year contract with the Royal Swedish Opera to join as the new ballet director. This new collaboration will see Le Riche work with the company on both classical ballet and contemporary dance, having done with same with Paris Opera Ballet. Le Riche will success Johannes Öhman, who will go on to direct Staatsballett Berlin.

London Ballet Circle
The London Ballet Circle has a jam-packed programme of events scheduled until the end of 2017. Founded in 1946 by Stanley Hawkins, its founder President and first Patron was the founder of the Royal Ballet, Dame Ninette de Valois; Dame Alicia Markova succeeded Dame Ninette.
The 2017 Strictly Come Dancing line up
Strictly Come Dancing’s professional dancer line-up for series 15 has now been unveiled, with three new female dancers taking to the nation’s screens alongside the return of viewers’ old favourites too. The three new professional dancers are all champions from the Ballroom and Latin world; Dianne Buswell from Australia, Nadiya Bychkova from Ukraine and Amy Dowden from Wales. They will join Strictly Come Dancing when the award-winning series returns in September to BBC One.
Evita to play in London this summer
Musical theatre fans of the iconic production Evita, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical collaboration, have cause to celebrate. Evita will run at the Phoenix Theatre for 12 weeks this summer having opened at the West End theatre on 2 August, running until 14 October with previews from 28 July.
Cesar Corrales – newest Principal of English National Ballet
Tamara Rojo CBE, Artistic Director of English National Ballet, announced last month that Cesar Corrales was to become a Principal of English National Ballet from the start of the 2017/2018 season. Having joined English National Ballet as Artist of the Company in 2014, Corrales was promoted to Junior Soloist in 2015, and to First Soloist in 2016. At just 20 years old, Corrales will become English National Ballet’s youngest principal.

New radio programme for regional theatre
The BBC has recently unveiled a new radio programme which is dedicated solely to regional theatre. Radio 4’s Opening Night will visit a different UK town or city each month and meet the actors, writers and directors working on local professional productions. The plans for the news show followed an announcement of a regional theatre show last year, to showcase the wealth of talent in that area of theatre. For most audiences this form of theatre makes up the majority of their theatre-going habit.
Research in dance science for Elmhurst Ballet School
Elmhurst Ballet School, in collaboration with University of Wolverhampton and in association with Birmingham Royal Ballet, is currently at the forefront of research in dance science and is pioneering ways for dancers to avoid injury by introducing ground-breaking fitness and rehabilitation techniques. As a result, more dancers than ever can be pain free, and feel stronger and more confident.
