Evita to play in London this summer

Musical theatre fans of the iconic production Evita, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical collaboration, have cause to celebrate. Evita will run at the Phoenix Theatre for 12 weeks this summer having opened at the West End theatre on 2 August, running until 14 October with previews from 28 July.

The show will star Emma Hatton in the lead role of Eva Perón, played by Madonna in the firm of the same name. The film is perhaps the more well-known of the two productions, however it will be a treat for London audiences to be able to watch the musical in the capital again. Hatton’s previous theatre credits include playing Elphaba in the West End production of Wicked, We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre and Dreamboats and Petticoats. Hatton also played Perón in a touring production of the show earlier this year.

Gian Marco Schiaretti will play Che, following his playing of the title role in the Disney musical Tarzan in Stuutgart. The full cast of Evita includes Oscar Balmaseda, Sarah O’Connor, George Arvidson, Lewis Barnshaw, Jessica Ellen, Callum Fitzgerald, Kellie Gnauck, Dominic Adam Griffin, Joe McCourt, Jude Neill, Jordan Oliver, Chrissie Perkins, Oliver Slade, Matias Stegmann and Yuval Zoref.

Evita follows the journey of Eva Perón, the wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Perón in this classic tale. The score includes iconic musical theatre tracks such as “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”, “On This Night of a Thousand Stars” and “Another Suitcase in Another Hall”, set to delight audiences during its run from the summer through to the Autumn. Another chance to see the musical production might not come around so soon.
