Follies to return
In exciting news for the theatre industry, director Dominic Cooke has confirmed that the National Theatre production of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies will return to the stage next year. For many, the recent Follies run was short-lived and deserved a longer stint at the National Theatre on London’s Southbank. National Youth Dance Company news
National Youth Dance Company (NYDC), the country’s flagship organisation for young dancers which is run by Sadler’s Wells, will work with choreographer Botis Seva as the next Guest Artistic Director of the company. NYDC begins its search for the next intake of 30 young dancers to join the company for 2018-19 and work with Seva to create a new dance production, with Experience Workshops taking place across England from May. Dance Hub extension in Birmingham
Birmingham Hippodrome has received almost £1.5 million to construct and oversee the Dance Hub Birmingham physical space development – expanding and enhancing the city’s ambition to create a national home for dance. The Dance Hub extension will set Birmingham in motion to become a major UK centre for performing arts, and will consequently be able to expand dance services in the region. The multi-tasking dancer
Dancers are the ultimate masters of multi-tasking, and it seems now there is scientific research to support this. Studies at the University of Maryland in partnership with the University of Houston over the past few years have revealed that dancers use multiple areas of their brains simultaneously while dancing: one part controls movement without expressive intention, another part imagines movement qualities.
