Siobhan Davies Dance and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art have announced the CONTINUOUS Network with UK-wide partners and funding from Arts Council England, an expansion of their four-year partnership. The CONTINUOUS Network will incorporate institutions around the country, including galleries Bluecoat (Liverpool), Nottingham Contemporary, The Tetley (Leeds), Tramway (Glasgow) and Turner Contemporary (Margate), and dance organisations Dance4 (Nottingham) and Yorkshire Dance (Leeds). A new name for the Queen’s Theatre
The Queen’s Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, which recently closed for renovation, will be renamed the Sondheim Theatre when it reopens. The space is currently home to Les Misérables, and will change its name to honour the award-winning composer Stephen Sondheim when he turns 90 in March. New London theatre to open next month
The 200-seat Turbine Theatre will open this summer beside Battersea Power Station, enabling world class artists to tell their stories and enchant their audiences. It forms part of a trend for new venues in the UK capital, with Soho’s Boulevard Theatre and Troubadour Wembley Park due to open in the autumn as well. In addition to it serving the goods in London’s Theatreland, it also gave fans the chance to fully embrace the show in all its glory. English National Ballet performs at the Bolshoi Theatre for the first time
Thursday 11 July saw, for the first time in its history, English National Ballet performing at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow. The company performed Akram Khan’s Giselle on the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, as part of the Chekov International Festival. Performing for four days, the shows were the Company’s first performances at the prestigious venue, marking an important moment in the company’s history. Dance Consortium has announced spring 2020 tour dates across the UK for Carlos Acosta’s critically acclaimed Cuban company Acosta Danza. Named Evolution, the 2020 tour commences at Mayflower Theatre in Southampton on 3 March with performances in Cardiff, Inverness, Bradford, Brighton, Canterbury, Salford, Plymouth and Newcastle, and concludes in Nottingham on 11 April.
