This summer, BalletBoyz made its West End and Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut with its critically acclaimed Them/Us, an innovative double bill and a brand-new collaboration, from the company’s dancers and the Olivier Award-winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon. A co-production with Sadler’s Wells, Them/Us played at Sadler’s Wells in March as part of a UK tour. The production will tour to Reading, Milton Keynes, Shrewsbury, Cambridge, Brighton and Deptford. A new title for Darcey Bussell
The Royal Ballet School has honoured former student Dame Darcey Bussell DBE with the title Artist Laureate in recognition of her contribution to the School and to ballet. The new title has been created especially for Darcey to celebrate her exceptional career and achievements as an alumna of the School. It also marks the impact she has made in bringing ballet to ever-broader audiences through her work, as well as inspiring thousands of dancers through her teaching and advocacy work. Genée International Ballet Competition 2019 Medallists
The Royal Academy of Dance recently announced the medallists of the prestigious Genée International Ballet Competition 2019, held at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto on 29 August. After a week of intensive coaching from world-renowned teachers and choreographers, the competition final saw the coveted gold medal awarded to Darrion Sellman, from the USA, trained by Andrea Paris-Gutierrez and Jose Carayol, and Mia Zanardo, from Australia, trained by Hilary Kaplan and Archibald McKenzie.
