Resolution is The Place’s annual festival of new choreography by emerging artists. In its many years it has launched the careers of some of the most successful dance makers, providing a platform to present their work to London audiences.
The Place is therefore calling UK choreographers and companies to propose ideas for new work that they are passionate about bringing to life for the 2019 festival, which will run from January to February next year. Over 70 artists will be selected to create and perform their works in The Place’s theatre, which will coincidentally be the 30th edition of the festival. It is now open for applications from dance artists and movement innovators from all different backgrounds, styles and experiences; from contemporary, to hip-hop, to dance theatre, and circus.
Successful applicants will benefit from a series of supportive and practical workshops run by industry experts covering all aspects of the business from lighting design, funding applications, producing and marketing, as well being able to present their work on an established London stage. The festival is the perfect opportunity for choreographers to take the next step in their careers, gaining valuable experience in the dance, and particularly choreographic, sector.
In further supporting aspiring professionals in their line of work, the festival’s associated scheme Resolution Review supports emerging writers to hone their craft, required to attend a certain number of performances to critique. This beneficial venture also provides a critical sounding board for selected Resolution artists with reviews written by leading national critics and new writers every night, in which they almost act as mentors to the aspiring writers.
Applications for the festival, which opened in June, are in the form of a written online form with supporting video clips. The closing date is Thursday 6 September.
